Photo blog #10 Geology Photo Journal Project Land breeze

  What to photograph : Anything related to PSC 103 This photo was taken 6/2/26 at 8:14pm (Avila Beach) Though its impossible to tell from the photo alone, but I was standing of the cliff side taking in the view and felt wind going towards the ocean meaning I was being hit by a land breeze. Which makes sense since this photo was taken at sunset pretty late in the day. So by then the land would of cooled enough that a land breeze formed instead of a sea breeze due to convection. ( as the air over the warmer ocean rose, the cooler air from the land moved toward the water) So It was nice to feel this difference as when at the coastline/beach I typically always feel a sea breeze since I go early in the day.  had an outing with friends to Avila. 

Photo blog #9 Geology Photo Journal Project Stratigraphy

  What to photograph : Stratigraphy – layers of Earth.  Find a place that, due to erosion, has exposed layers of deposition. This photo was also taken during our field trip 5/30/26 at 10:27am We can see clearly in this photo clear differences in the rock layers from bottom to top. The erosion that exposed these layers I think was from the waves, winds, and rain since this is right next to an ocean. The layers seem to be all quite similar but have small differences. The biggest difference is that very top layer as I think it is a sign of unconformity as its a whole different layer than those below. I think for the most part these are all the same material and compressed into rock. My guess is it took thousands of years to get to this point.  Hair fixed itself here a little haha

Photo blog #8 Geology Photo Journal Project atmospheric process

  What to photograph : An atmospheric process – anything involving the atmosphere. This photo was taken may 30th on our hike at like 9:33 am.  This photo shows FOG along the coast which in fact is an atmospheric phenomenon. Fog forms when moist air cools to its dew point, causing water vapor to condense into tiny water droplets suspended in the air. Sort of like how a cloud forms. Since it is early in the morning at the time of this picture fog was very likely to occur since it develops when cool ocean water cools the air above it, and since it wasn't hot or anything early the fog grew. The scale was quite large as it covered basically the whole coastline and some areas inland. I think It got warmer later so this fog only lasted a few hours I assume.  The atmosphere I think was messing with my hair to because WHTA IS THAT ðŸ˜­ðŸ˜­ looks like my hair was erupting lol

Geology Photo Journal Project #7 What to photograph: A volcanic geological feature.

  What to photograph : A volcanic geological feature.   The feature must be large – at least as large as an outcrop.   You may need to use the internet to learn more before you go exploring, but there are numerous volcanic features in the SLO area.  Find one and take some pictures!  Pictures should include one or more of the entire feature, then if possible, one or more pictures of individual rocks. I want to start off by saying I wasn't able to get any cool close ups of volcanic geological features here in SLO so I wanted to share something from over a year ago that matches this theme. (I know this defeats the purpose of the photo journal a bit I'm sorry)  This photo is from when I went to Maui like 2 summers ago and what best matches volcanic activities than the Hawaiian islands. Geology Photo Journal Project #6 fight against erosion

  What to photograph : A place where humans have changed the land or created structures to fight against erosion.  We have been studying primarily natural phenomena, but now I would like you to show a place where people have done significant work in order to stop natural phenomena from occurring. This photo shows the back side of our football stadium. When building a stadium a whole lot is needed to change in nature and it's surroundings to be able to even start. They need to level the land, install drainage systems and make large supports to prevent all sorts of erosion and water damage. Since it is also build above a road there is already that drainage system to fight against rain and floods. The sides have gutters to redirect water and from what I can tell at a glance there is no real signs of erosion so I do think that it was successful at preventing erosion.
